Nestled away on the most south-eastern shores of Prince Edward County lies the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory (PEPtBO). Surrounded by a rich ecosystem of red cedars–originally farm fields that were transformed into a national wildlife site–the location serves as the final “pit stop” for migratory birds as they get their fill before continuing their southern journey over Lake Ontario in search of a warmer destination.
For bird observatories spread across the country--like PEPtBO in Milford, Ontario and Delta Marsh Bird Observatory (DMBO) near Winnipeg, Manitoba--this seasonal occurence coincides with their bird banding season, with the intention of monitoring bird populations and preserving their habitats.
