Yesterday I made some portraits of local high school student Anantjot Khosa, for a story by Maggie Macintosh concerning student mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Isolated at home, doing remote learning, yet again, the Grade 11 student has more time to overthink — about her marks, loss of motivation, and the last year in missed opportunities.
These are among the items the 16-year-old said come up during counselling sessions, which she started doing this spring through school.
Photographed for the Winnipeg Free Press. Story can be read on their website.
Within minutes of crossing the Ontario border into Manitoba for the first time, I was welcomed by the smell of smoke and low-flying planes soaring overhead.
I quickly realized it was wildfire season.
I haven’t officially started my summer internship with the Winnipeg Free Press, but I was already able to get some work into the paper.
More than 100 fires have already occurred in the province since the start of 2021, which has brought the need for assistance from firefighting crews from neighbouring provinces.

It’s an incredible honour to have been named Student Photographer of the Year by the News Photographers Association of Canada (NPAC) after completing my first year of studies at Loyalist College.
Congratulations to all of the finalists, which included my classmates Sabah Rahman (second place) and Christie Leja (honourable mention.)
